"I’m going on holidays after this because I need one desperately – it’s been a challenging three months. I’ve been happy with the role I’ve been given and whatever the future holds, I’ll accept. It’s not important. Whatever the club decides we respect; it’s as simple as that. I’ve just tried to work with the players tactically, mentally and physically and prepare them to the best of my knowledge. It’s brought us results and that’s what matters most. Players, staff and supporters, we’re all very happy tonight – it’s a historic night for our football club."

Most delicious post in this blog’s history, probably!
This also happened in 1987 and I can’t think of a better way to top off this year’s spotlight.
The first ice cream flavour named after a rock legend, Cherry Garcia ice cream was first released in 1987; however, it was first suggested over 3 years before by 2 self-proclaimed fans of Ben & Jerry’s & the Grateful Dead, who thought we ought to make a flavour named Cherry Garcia, in honour of Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia. Their suggestion was written on a postcard with a Portland, Maine, postmark, but no name or return address. After considerable research and development to find the perfect ingredients, the final recipe included fresh bing cherries & specially formulated chocolate flakes in a rich cherry cream. After making similarly considerable efforts to search for & identify the DeadHead who wrote the postcard, we finally found Jane Williamson. To thank her & to officially recognise her as the original creator of the flavour name, we invited Jane to our 1987 Annual Stockholders’ Meeting, where Ben & Jerry presented her (& a friend) with a giant Cherry Garcia pint lid, as well as a year’s supply of ice cream. We later upgraded Jane’s ice cream award winning status; to this day she’s still a card-carrying member of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream For Life Club.
